The Yaquina Head Lighthouse was built just after the Civil War. The lighthouse is massive at 93 foot high and 14 inch thick and contains over 370,000 bricks. Construction of Oregon's tallest lighthouse was completed and the lens lit on August 20th, 1878 by Fayette Crosby, who also lit the first light at Umpqua River Lighthouse. The Yaquina Head Lighthouse was equipped with a huge 12 foot high first order Fresnel lens manufactured by Barbier & Fenestre in Paris, France, in 1868.
